Galahad Buttoned Barrels

Pendragon Galahad Buttoned Barrels are formed by drawing a precision tungsten carbide coated button through a drilled and reamed barrel blank. Selection of the correct lubricant is vital to prevent damage to the barrel and destruction of the tool. The operation is undertaken on a Unisig CNC controlled machine to ensure precise twist rates, which is somewhat more difficult to achieve on analogue machines.

Post rifling, it is imperative that buttoned barrels are put through a thorough stress relieving process which we do in-house to ensure it is done to our specification. Once stress relieved all barrels are hand-lapped for finish, and gauged for dimension and straightness.

Correctly done, a buttoned barrel is every bit as accurate as other barrels made by more traditional means. A Pendragon TVA Special buttoned barrel won the 2023 King's prize at Bisley, a remarkable feat given we understood it to be the only one of our barrels in the competition.

The background photo to this page is a 5 shot group fired out of a Pendragon Galahad buttoned barrel mounted on a Howa actioned hunting rifle. See our gallery for another group from this barrel at 200 yards.

Our standard length blank is 29", to finish at an inch shorter and other lengths can b supplied to order. Currently we can supply the following calibres and twists:
